New Hub for Student Engagement and Creativity Debuts with Exciting Features |
The long-anticipated Bloomberg Student Center is set to open its doors to Johns Hopkins University affiliates on Monday, August 25, marking a significant milestone in enhancing campus life.
Announced in 2019 as a dedicated space for student social engagement, the center's construction began in summer 2021. The facility will operate daily from 7:30 a.m. to midnight, providing ample time for students to utilize its resources. To celebrate the opening, a "First Look Celebration" is scheduled for 5 p.m. on August 25, featuring music, brief remarks, giveaways, food tastings, and guided tours.
The Bloomberg Student Center boasts a variety of spaces designed to foster creativity and collaboration, including the Creative Media Center, the Black Box Theater, reservable multipurpose rooms, and study areas tailored for student organizations. A phased opening is planned, with dining options expected to become available in mid-October. Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Student Initiatives, Lee Hawthorne, emphasized the importance of this phased approach, stating, "We felt like we needed to learn how students use this building before we open the doors for the community."
Students have expressed enthusiasm for the new center. Rising junior Brianna Gauto-Kennedy shared, "I have been waiting and I’m so excited for the Student Center to open! I can’t wait to spend time there whether it is with friends, trying their new food or going to Hopkins’ events."
The Bloomberg Student Center is poised to become a vibrant hub for student life, offering diverse opportunities for engagement, creativity, and community building. |
